This wonderfully compact ensemble has been formed in the year 2016, a year that was full of creative activities related tot the commemoration of Jheronimus Bosch. The Wirken Ensemble is an all star quartet with Mete Erker, Eric van der Westen, Jan Wirken and recent winner of the Boy Edgar award Martin Fondse!

The band has toured in Europe and gave well received concerts in several cities including Brussels, San Lorenzo and Madrid. This tour was certainly not the end of the ensemble, which proves the closeness between the musicians who share the same creative abilty.

The compositions by Martin Fondse are partly inspired by the work of composers who were contemporaries of Jheronimus Bosch. Prominent examples are Jacob Obrecht and Johannes van Ockeghem. The acoustic approach of these compositions by such renowned musicians are fabulous and a form of pure chamber music with plenty of room for improvisation.

The ensemble:

Mete Erker – tenor saxophone

Martin Fondse – piano, compositions

Eric van der Westen – double bass

Jan Wirken - drums
